Prior to creating your website, here are a few things you may want to consider if you haven't already. Sometimes these are not thought about often enough and can actually help produce an association sell to your customers
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
Do you have a "Logo" for your company? - A logo is your name identifier. It represents who you are and a catchy logo does enhance your company. It can be as simple as the company name or it can be a bit more intricate by adding a picture or figure behind your company initials. Depending on whatever you decide to do, this can become a part of your company card, your sign name, or the first thing your customers see on letterhead. As you advertise and more people see your logo, they identify your logo almost immediately with you. The logo on the left is a company name done with effects.
The picture on the right is the same company as above but instead of just the name, figures and initials are used so that potential customers identify you not only by name, but also by your company initials and/or design.
Please note that should you have a logo made for you, others may be able to use some portion of your logo for themselves unless the logo is trademarked. In order to do this, you have to file paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This also requires a fee. A link to their site will be provided in this website.
Do you have a Color Scheme? - The color scheme may be reflected in your logo and used in conjunction with your business cards, website, etc. It can also help to identify your company to potential customers. Sometimes we don't even think about this prior to starting a business but our minds do know that color is there. You know that John Deere is green and yellow and Pepsi is red, white and blue. Were you to see either of these colors in the companies logo without advertising shown, you just may think of them without even knowing what they were about. Color does attract the eye and also may be used to convey things like gender and types of companies (ie: lawn, medical, water, bands, etc)
Do you want your website to Advertise or Sell? - There's nothing wrong with putting a website up with the only intent of providing people with what you do. (informative only) A website can also be an effective tool for selling. How good your website is selling for you can be a bit hard at times to determine though. Unless people are purchasing your products or services from the website, you may have to do something to provide "feedback" so information comes back to you. (ie: a give-away for the mention of the website) Also, don't forget that the more intricate your website is, the more updating it may need. Whether it's pictures, adding products and services, updating a blog, etc. your website will need to keep pace with your company.
